Week Commencing 11th December 2017

Wow, what a very busy final week of term we’ve had!  We’ve hosted a number of events this week in the lead up to Christmas:  On Tuesday we welcomed members of St Luke’s Church to talk us through the Christingle story and then help children to make their own Christingle.  On Wednesday we hosted our annual nativity play, with children singing some of their favourite Christmas songs.  We were delighted to be joined by a representative of Lexden Methodist church to narrate this for us.  Finally, on Friday we had our end of term Christmas party.  We were entertained by Magic Iain, before then enjoying our party food.  We then heard a jingle and maybe even the sound of reindeer hoofs on the roof… it was Father Christmas come to visit!

We also enjoyed some more ‘normal’ sessions this week.  On Monday, with the snow, everyone was very excited… but instead of braving going outside, we decided to bring the outside in!  We filled our tuff spot with the fresh snow and enjoyed making snowmen indoors!  This led to lots of lovely language being explored, such as ‘melting,’ frozen,’ ‘snow,’ ‘ice,’ ‘cold’, ‘wet’ and ‘winter!’

On Thursday, with the snow finally all gone, we needed to work off lots of energy!  We had our climbing frame out so that children could climb, balance and slide, before then enjoying a number of parachute games.  Whilst waiting for a turn on the climbing frame, children demonstrated how well they could wait their turn; sitting in the ‘waiting area’ and sharing books with one another whilst waiting for the sand timer to finish.

We introduced shaving foam to our messy play this week, with children choosing to add scrapers, stampers and cars!  This made some lovely patterns to the shaving foam!  We have also had rainbow rice and playdough, as well as our ever popular mud kitchen to provide messy play.

Finally, still in the Christmas mood, we made melting snowman biscuits!  Children enjoyed measuring ingredients and mixing them… and then enjoyed decorating them with sprinkles and a large marshmallow!

Ideas to continue this week’s fun at home:

We would like to wish all of our families a happy healthy holiday and a happy new year.
We look forward to welcoming you all back from Monday 8th January 2018
