Week beginning 16th June
This week we have continued our story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.  The children have been busy making caterpillar headbands, egg box caterpillars and butterfly biscuits.  They have a very good knowledge of the story and some of them have been retelling the story to each other using the story sack props.  We made the outdoor playhouse into a shop selling real fruit and vegetables and we also used some to do our potato and fruit printing.
We set up the dark den and took turns to go inside with the rechargeable torches.  We also used it when we went on a 'Bear Hunt' and pretended it was the dark cave in the Bear hunt story.  There has been a lot of outdoor play and we were pleased to welcome a lot of the children's dads and granddads in to join in our fun.  They joined our big group parachute play and we showed them how well we can listen and follow instructions.  We showed them how we are learning to sit with our legs crossed ready for our singing and story times.  We decorated one of the trees outside using lots of colourful chalks-good mark making practise.  We made our own stage to practise our singing and dancing and we turned the wooden box into a cosy place with cushions and soft toys.
We have been given a red tractor and we used the sand timer to practise our turn taking on this.  We have used the knex, briomec and mobilo construction to make our own models and lots of us played with the farm animals making enclosures for them with our wooden blocks.  At the end of the week we played some small group games; dotty dinosaurs, grasshoppers, lunchbox game, a memory game and snap.
Those of us who will soon be going to school have been practising undressing and dressing for PE.  We need to practise this at home as well to make sure we are able to be as independent as possible when we go to school.

We are looking forward to next Friday 27th June as it is our trip to Highwoods Country Park.  We will be going pond dipping and searching for minibeasts.
