Week beginning 5th May We returned to Squirrels on Tuesday after the bank holiday weekend. After sports with Leo we celebrated one of the children’s 4th birthday with special cakes and biscuits brought in by mum. We revisited the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and planted a bean in a plastic cup (a bit like the magic beans in the story that grow into a beanstalk). We can observe the roots and shoots of our bean through the cup as it grows. We played lots of group games such as the car driving game and the honey bear game where we have to follow simple instructions and try to join in with the words. We made a den outside by putting a roof over our log circle and adding covers and cushions. We continue to mix up lots of concoctions in our mud kitchen outside, adding water, stones, twigs and leaves. Inside we mix powder paints and water and experiment with colours in our paintings. We have used the big wooden blocks for building as well as the marble run and the train track and the children are getting much better at sharing and working together in small groups. We have used lots of malleable materials such as playdough which we tried to make purple but it turned out brown! We made cloud dough with flour and oil, had rice in our tuff spot and shaving foam too. On Friday it was very windy so we played games with our super sized parachute. The wind made it fly up very high and we had to hold on very tight. To those who were able to come to our coffee and chat on Tuesday, we hope you found it useful. We talked about preparing your child for school and gave out some printed information to help you. If you were unable to attend we will be making sure you receive the information next week. If there is anything else you would like information about please let us know and we will do our best to help.
