We began with planting sunflower seeds individually in pots which the children have taken home to grow. We will be asking you to measure them and take photographs so that we can see whose grows the tallest.
The children have also helped us to clear the garden for some more spring planting and over the next couple of weeks we will be planting vegetables, fruit and flowers. Some of the children helped to make some large hedgehogs for growing plants in . These were made using two litre drink bottles and will shortly be on display in the garden.
We had a very exciting delivery this week of caterpillar eggs. The children will be able to observe them over the coming weeks as they form a chrysalis and ultimately turn into butterflies for us to release into the wild when they are ready.
We had a couple of really nice sunny days this week so we made dens in the garden and had our snack outside. The children enjoy building different kinds of houses or structures using large plastic bricks, blankets and cushions. The builders were wearing their high visibility jackets and carrying tools, just like real builders.
Other garden games have included pushing and pulling trolleys, walking on stilts, playing hula hoops and using the balancing beams
On Friday we welcomed a parent into the setting to help us. We are always delighted when a parent offers to help us and the children are always very proud to have their mummy or daddy in to see what we do and to join in.
Words we have learned this week:
- Growing
- Planting
Ideas to continue this weeks fun at home:
- Plant some seeds in a small plastic cup with some soil so they you can watch the growth over time.
- Encourage your child to make their own sandwiches or spread crackers for their lunch.
