Week Commencing 2nd March 2020

With World Book Day this week, we have been strongly focused on storytelling all week.  We have loved sharing all of the children's favourites that they have brought in, as well as seeing their fantastic character outfits!  Thank you also to the parents who have joined us to share some of their favourite children's stories too.

Our helicopter stories have continued with more children showing the confidence to create their own imaginative tales.  These stories have been typed up word-for-word, with any illustrations the children have added, and made into a book.  The children have been so proud of their stories that many have shared them at carpet-time.  When asked about favourite stories during circle-time, many said their favourite was their own!

Our craft table has been character inspired all week.  We have made alien underpants, hungry caterpillars, decorated Elmer the Elephant and made potato prints with Supertato!  Supertato then inspired us to make our own superhero masks and come up with our own Superhero at carpet-time - a multi-eyed hero called Super-sheep who can run super fast and jump super high!

We have also explored stories within sensory play using our tuff trays.  We used porridge oats to explore Goldilocks and the 3 Bears and ginger dough to act out The Gingerbread Man.

On Friday, we were very excited to be visited by Eliza, one of our Persona dolls.  Persona dolls help to teach children about acceptance, friendships and caring for others.  Today, Eliza had a very exciting gift for the squirrels; a box of new books!  She showed the children the new books, and then we choose which one to read.  These are an exciting range of books that promote diversity and challenge stereotypes, helping our children to understand how we are all unique, yet still share many similarities.

Other popular activities this week have included puzzles, dolls, rockets, and Happyland.  We also enjoyed a visit to the library bus to choose some new books to share.

Ideas to continue the learning at home:

All children were given a £1 World Book Day token - why not choose one of the FREE books to take home and share together.
