How to register your child with Squirrels...
In order to join our waiting list for Squirrels Pre-School, you will need to complete a registration form availabile from the office at Highwoods and St Johns Community Centre (opening hours Mon-Fri 9am-1pm), once completed the form will need to be returned to the Community Centre office.
Please be aware that Squirrels is an extremely popular pre-school and consequently we have a large number of children whose details are registered with us. Unfortunately it is not possible to offer everyone the sessions they hope for, and it is not always possible to offer children a place when they are 2 and a half years old. This problem is increasing as more and more houses are being built in the area (with no new pre-schools being set up to meet this extra demand) and as the local schools change to only one intake of Reception children a year in the September.
When places become available at the pre-school, in most cases extra sessions are offered to those already attending Squirrels. The remainder of places are offered to older children on the waiting list first, to try and give as many children as possible at least some pre-school experience before attending school.
At Squirrels, places are allocated by both age and length of time on the waiting list – that is, of two children who are the same age, the child who has been on the waiting list longest will be offered the place.
In, general, Squirrels will try to offer the same number of sessions to each child but often needs will vary, so that some children will only attend once a week, others maybe four or five times. In these cases, the child often started with fewer sessions and has increased as places became available.
